BIOGRAPHY

FAR CORNER was formed in the Spring of 2003.  This Wisconsin-based quartet of keyboards, cello, bass, and percussion blends contemporary classical chamber music with rock and a touch of jazz.  FAR CORNER's repertoire consists of composed works, completely improvised works, and everything in between.  Traditional limitations of each instrument are stretched, often bluring genre roles.  Cello may play in a "Heavy Metal" style, or electric bass may play in a manner more commonly found in classical music.  Great attention has been given to put each instrument on equal footing, making the music compositionally focused, yet still allowing each player their moments to shine.  Besides the core four instruments, the ensemble makes use of home-made instruments, as well as secondary instruments from each of the members such as trumpet, violin, and sitar, melodica, and a variety of percussion instruments.

The group has performed live in the Milwaukee area, and has also been featured in progressive rock festivals such as Progday (NC), and the Orion Sound Studios Progressive Rock Showcase in Baltimore, MD.  The group makes it a goal to perform new material at each show, which consists of free-form improvisations and composed works.

FAR CORNER's debut, self-titled CD was released in September, 2004 and received high praise from critics around the world.  The group's second release, Endangered will be released in January, 2007.

The ensemble consists of the internationally performed and award winning composer, Dan Maske on keyboards, award-winning bass virtuoso William Kopecky, strings master Angela Schmidt on cello, and lord of all things percussion, Craig Walkner.

FAR CORNER's members utilize a combination of classical training plus years of performing experience in rock, jazz, and classical idioms all over the world.  Please click on each member's name for individual biographical information.
